Seniors Scored Among the Top in the Nation on Last Year's PSAT SAN LEANDRO, CA, Wednesday, September 20, 2006, Chinese Christian High School announced today that three of its seniors have been recognized as part of the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program. Kevin Chan was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist, scoring among the top 1.5% of the over 1.4 million high school juniors who took the PSAT qualifying exam last year. Kevin will continue in the competition to earn one of the coveted Merit Scholarship Awards sponsored by the nation's leading businesses and Universities. Along with Kevin, seniors Cordell Gee and Allen Tan received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for placing in the top 5% nationally on the PSAT. An NMSC spokesperson commented, "Recognition of academically talented students and the key role played by schools in their development is essential to the pursuit of educational excellence in our nation." Kevin, Cordell, and Allen join the ranks of 8 National Merit Finalists and 23 Commended students at Chinese Christian High School over the past 10 years, a rate that is over double the statistical average. Chinese Christian Schools is an educational ministry of the Bay Area Chinese Bible Church and has 950 students in grades kindergarten through twelfth located on two East Bay Area campuses in San Leandro and Alameda. Founded in 1979, the school was recently recognized by the US Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. It has been awarded the Exemplary School Program Award three times by the Association of Christian Schools International and is known internationally for its excellent academics that is Christian in philosophy and Chinese in culture.
